The penultimate event in the South West Summer Relay series was held by WSX on Sunday at Broadstone Recreation Ground/Hillbourne – the International (see below) Hardy Relays. For the second year running, we ran it as a Harris Relay format and we had 14 teams entering from BOK, QO, WIM, SARUM, and ourselves – plus a family team from Germany!

It was a lovely afternoon and the competition was fierce – particularly between WSX Raiders and BOK Raiders. I’m delighted to say that our team won the Senior Trophy by over 2 minutes. The victorious team were Rob Hick, John Cook and Dale Paget. Well done lads.

In the same Senior competition, our other WSX teams came a fantastic 3rd (WSX Wannabees – James Crickmore, Jon Brooke and myself) and 4th (WSX Wonderwomen – Tracy and Emma Crickmore and Nicki Brooke). There were 9 Senior teams in total, so this was a great achievement.

In the Junior competition, our other team – the WSX Wizards (Arthur and Agnes Brooke, Yvette Paget) came a fantastic 1st. Brilliant.

We didn’t field a Vets team in the competition, which was won by QO.

A big thanks to Sheila Gold, Kay Sayer, Ian Sayer and Alan Hooper who put all the hard work in to make it a successful event.

The final event of the series takes place on Dartmoor next Sunday, and I fear that we won’t have a hope of winning as I am in the only WSX team! But maybe my age handicap will help a bit…..
