Club News

A somewhat belated chat this week.

First of all, Wessex Raiders (James, Peter and Rob) came 3rd in the Devon Relays at Killerton House last Sunday. But, as reported last time, WSX have won the overall SWOA Summer Relay Trophy, bringing it back after BOK snatched it from us last year! Well done everyone who contributed to the wins. And a big thanks to Roger for getting the teams together.

There are only 3 events left in the Wessex Region Summer Series now:

  • Thursday 9th August  – Steamer Point, Highcliffe (Ian and Kay will be assisting Activate on this one)
  • Sunday 12th August – Tinney’s Firs, Downton (organised by Sarum). This will be a special one as the trophies and medals will be awarded for the Summer Series and Sarum are putting on a BBQ. This will be a Bring-Your-Own food and drink set-up (like at Studland) but they would like to know if you are planning to go. Details on their website.
  • Tuesday, 14th AugustBy-The-Way, Wimborne, 10.30.

Quite a number from the club are going up to the Lake District this coming week for the Lakes 5 Days, so I just hope it cools a bit! After that, I’m travelling around for  couple of weeks so there probably won’t be another ‘Chat’ for a while (depends on wi-fi availability!)

Finally, I’ve informed the Committee that I intend to hand in my reins as Chairman in September, as by then I will have done 6 years. Having heard that other local clubs have a “3 year rule”, I felt that I had well-passed my “Best By Date”!! I shall obviously be heavily involved with the club, but feel it’s time to give someone else a go to lead it. To be honest, it’s not an onerous task as the Committee works very much as a team and roles are shared by everyone. So, if you have suggestions as to who you might want as the new Chairman, please let me know.

Enjoy August!
