New To Orienteering?

If you've found this page then you probably already know (or suspect) that orienteering is a fun and challenging outdoor adventure sport for all ages and abilities. The aim of orienteering is to use a map to navigate as quickly as possible between a number of controls (checkpoints). If you're not completely sure what it's about, here's a short clip from British Orienteering to set the scene:

If you just can't wait to get started, or if you'd rather just have a go by yourself in your own time, then trying a Permanent Orienteering course might be the answer for you. Wessex Orienteering club has developed four permanent orienteering courses at Upton Country Park, Poole Park, The Littledown Centre and Kings Park. More information in the Permanent Courses (POCs) section, where you can also download a free map, or you can buy a map at the venues.

Hopefully you will have got the impression by now that we are a helpful and welcoming bunch and that we'd love to see you at one of our events. If you have any further questions, please mail or call our membership secretary or any of the other committee members listed on our Contacts page.

If you want to read more about the technical details of what you will be doing there is a great article for beginners to orienteering written by international orienteer Oli Johnson here:
