Please contact Sian Barber 07876 796094 Controller's Comments: Terry Smith SOC On behalf of all competitors, I'd like to thank Wessex Orienteers for their efforts with this event, in particular, Sian Barber in her first role as Organiser and Kayer Sayer as Planner. WSX is one of the smaller clubs in the SWOA: as Controller, I was privileged to see some excellent team work involving many individuals supporting the main officials. You know who you are! In many respects the day of the event was something of an anti-climax for me - everything went exactly as planned and there was little if anything for me to do other than spectate. Bisterne Close in September is a challenging area to plan interesting courses. Some areas provided delightful, runnable deciduous woodland but other areas were compromised by luxuriant bracken growth and a map which perhaps better reflected late autumn or winter runnability and pre-wind blown conditions: the latter especially around control 3 on the Green and Brown courses. The available orienteering area placed severe limitations on planning the more technically challenging courses and path or indeed road routes sometimes provided the quicker options. The span of times on the Blue and Brown courses would suggest these courses were perhaps a little short or reflect the increased speed of people taking track or road options. The junior courses seem to have met with the approval of their customers with control kites placed sympathetically. There were some very quick juniors running on these courses! Thanks again to WSX and to you the competitors for coming and making their efforts worth while. Planners Comments: Kay Sayer At least the rain held off for the competitors! However, we did get a little damp collecting in the controls and breaking camp.I hope you all enjoyed your courses. I did try and keep you away from the very worst of the bracken but it is difficult to avoid it completely in this area.I didn't hear any moans about the courses, and I did hear some compliments, which is always nice. Some of the courses may have been a little 'light' on controls but I do hope this did not spoil your enjoyment. And enjoyment is the name of the game!My thanks to Terry Smith for his help and patience, to my "putter outers" and "bringer ins" - it always makes a Planners task easier if they don't have to do it all themselves - and to the whole Wessex team for a great effort. as organiser I am very pleased with how smoothly everything went. I
would like to say it is down to my great organisation but I cannot take
the credit as it is due to the great teamworking and We had a very successful day with a high number of entries and some excellent results, as you will see later. We introduced a new way of "pre-entering" for people who did not need to hire an SI card and knew which course they wanted to do, which I think worked well and prevented any build up in the registration tent.
