About Wessex Orienteering Club.Wessex O. C. is a relatively small club. It's members are mainly drawn from the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch conurbation extending into the New Forest and also into the more rural areas of Dorset. Bounded by Wimborne O.C. on the north and Southampton O.C. on the east. We are well established and have all the equipment necessary to run events without outside support. The club generally stages one Badge Event ( known as the Dorset Delight ) and one colour coded event every year. As well as the major events it also organises several small informal/training sessions, usually in the summer months, the quieter period for mainstream orienteering. Wessex is affiliated to the South West Orienteering Association (SWOA) and the colour coded event forms part of the S.W. Galoppen league. We have currently mapped many different areas for orienteering use and generally produce a new map or a re-mapping of an area each year. The club has a hardcore of members who attend most major events in the South as well as some of the multi-day events such as the J.K. Easter weekend and the Scottish Six Days. However there are also many members who orienteer less frequently, preferring to restrict their travelling to more local events. Most club members belong to the British Orienteering (BOF) but there are three levels of membership; National, Local and Club only. Each year we organize two or three social events ( skittles or quiz evenings or some other non 'O' related activity ) often with neighbours Wimborne. There is an Annual Dinner at which are presented the trophies for that year's men's and ladies' Club Champions as well as for the most promising adult and junior newcomer. We actively try to encourage junior participation and the club is fortunate in having a qualified coach. Lifts to events can often be arranged if transport is a problem. Please contact our Secretary or go to the "Join Wessex" page should you require any further information about the club. We are always pleased to welcome new members of all ages.
